No fence, wall, hedge or other object that obstructs sight may exceed 3 feet in any required front or side-corner yard. For homes in residential districts, a chain-link fence in a required front or side-corner yard may not exceed 5 feet.

Up to 8 feet in any required side or rear yard. A residential property whose side-corner yard backs onto another residential side-corner yard may also have a fence up to 8 feet in that side-corner yard.

Yes. On a corner lot in any residential district, nothing more than 2 feet tall (fence, wall, hedge, structure or planting) may be placed within the triangle formed by the two street lines and a line joining points 30 feet from their intersection. The city's landscape regulations describe a different visibility triangle (3 feet tall, 20 feet from the intersection), so ask Building & Development which applies to your lot.

No. Building fences, walls or other works in public alleys, ditches, other rights-of-way or other public property is prohibited, except as provided in section 5-1023 of the code.

Yes. All swimming pools must be enclosed by a fence or wall at least 4 feet tall with a self-latching gate, kept in good condition to keep out animals and young children.

Yes. It is unlawful to put up any electrically charged fence or electrically charged barrier wire within the city.

Yes. Louisiana law says that before any excavation, the person digging must notify the regional notification center (Louisiana 811) at least 48 hours, but not more than 120 hours, before starting, not counting weekends and holidays. After notifying, you must wait at least 48 hours, counted from 7:00 a.m. on the next working day, before digging, unless Louisiana 811 tells you no utility operators need to be notified.

Yes. The law defines excavation as moving or removing earth by powered, mechanical or manual means, and names digging and augering as examples. Manual probing is not counted as excavation.
